Capricorn Technologies Introduces New PowerStore™
Data Storage Device

San Francisco, California, November 13, 2006 – Capricorn Technologies, leading the next data storage revolution by supplying low cost, low maintenance, low power consuming, high density data storage systems, today announced the release of the newest member of its’ PetaBox™ family, the PowerStore. The official unveiling will take place at Supercomputing in Tampa, November 11-17, booth #447, where Capricorn, in association with the Vanderbilt University Advanced Computing Center for Research and Education (ACCRE), will demonstrate a full working rack of PowerStore devices.
The PowerStore, like the PetaBox GB series, provides raw storage capacity ranging from 1TB to 3TB in a 1U form factor. But unlike the GB series of nearline storage devices, the PowerStore has been built for performance. Equipped with SATA drives, dual-core processor, GbE, and support for hardware RAID, the PowerStore delivers access and read/write speeds up to 8X faster than the GB series.
“Capricorn helped us design a rack that houses 24 PowerStore devices as disk depots connected to 30 clients to test our L-Store™ Logistical Storage software,” states Alan Tackett, Technical Director of ACCRE. “The results are impressive, to say the least. With this technology, we have achieved a sustained transfer write speed of 3GB/s (3,000MB/s) over a period of 30 minutes, moving a total of ~5.5TB of data. To put that in perspective, we are storing data at a rate equivalent to 4.6 CDROMs per second!"
