MRPath, founded by experts in the field of Magnetic Imaging Technologies, provides software and services inspired by their work with the National Cancer Institute and the National Toxicology Program.
The MRPath founders were initially motivated by a desire to make available a heretofore expensive and specialized imaging capability to a broad community of users in research and industry. In addition to expertise in MR microscopy, the company offers other imaging modalities, the management of image-intense databases, and their integration within protocols and studies. This experience working with scientific imagery, along with their interest in developing services and products that enable their customers to leapfrog the imaging learning curve, allows the company to bypass the efficiency drain of data storage and image processing, and eliminate imaging equipment compatibility headaches. These goals led to the creation of a software product line that can reduce their customers’ costs, increase the amount of time available to researchers to focus on knowledge generation and meet regulatory requirements.

The Nevoa Storage System (NSS) enhances your existing storage infrastructure by allowing you to consolidate and amortize your storage assets across multiple users and applications using storage virtualization. The result is an improved return on investment and future procurement flexibility. NSS allows you to manage and configure various RAID structures spanning multiple servers in order to deliver optimal performance and manageability. For example, NSS can unite various storage devices to increase the amount of disk spindles that serve a particular application. The result is a significant improvement in transactional performance. For heterogeneous multi-site environments, you can leverage your infrastructure to create geographically diverse, high availability solutions. In addition, NSS allows you to integrate other technologies such as SATA RAID and existing FC RAID storage solutions, or define your own customized reliability strategies using a mixture of hardware solutions and existing TCP/IP networks. In order to ensure simplified administration, the Nevoa StorCore™ component of NSS provides a single logical repository for all resources that make up your storage fabric. StorCore features a secure web-based graphical user interface (GUI). The GUI provides an easy- to-use interface that simplifies daily operations and allows you to intuitively perform management tasks from a computer or PDA.

The Internet Archive is a non-profit organization founded to build an Internet library with the purpose of offering permanent access for researchers, historians, and scholars to historical collections that exist in digital format. Founded in 1996 by Brewster Kahle, the Archive has been receiving data donations from many institutions. In late 1999, the organization started to grow to include more well-rounded collections. Now the Internet Archive includes texts, audio, moving images, software, and over 85 billion archived web pages.
Capricorn Technologies traces its roots to the Internet Archive. In December of 2003, Brewster Kahle contacted his longtime friend C.R. Saikley with a proposal: develop the Internet Archive’s next-generation storage system. The system would have to be inexpensive to manufacture and operate, it would have to be reliable, and with a target of 1PB, it would be massive. Much of the success of the new design would hinge on staying within a tight power budget. The critical goals of the Internet Archive for high storage density, reliability, and low operating and cooling costs are all dependent on low power consumption. The team achieved its goals with a 100TB system that was placed in service in June of 2004. At that same time, Kahle and Saikley began discussing ways to make PetaBox technology available on a wider scale, and Capricorn Technologies was formed. Capricorn began operations shortly thereafter and shipped its first products in September of 2004.
